WHAT'S on YOUR HOOKS and NEEDLES in NOVEMBER 2025?

WELCOME TO NOVEMBER

The CoM (colour of the month) is......

BLACK

An understated colour that can go unnoticed until you are looking to make another colour or a pattern stand out.

It is not an 'easy' colour to knit with, if like me, your eyes are getting just a little older.

So if you have a little (or a lot) of black in your stash.....
please consider popping a little into a square or two.

  • I had two skeins of this self-striping yarn with some black in it, so thought this was the right time to use it.   I actually got 18 squares out of the two skeins, although there are only 16 squares shown in the photo, but (full disclosure) I had to raid my stash to finish the last half of the 18th square.   Usually 9 blocks of the C2C pattern makes a complete 8 inch square for me, but this time the square was a little shy of that size, so I added the black borders to fill it out to the proper size, and enhance the black.  Overall, I'm pleased with the effect and that I got enough squares to make a good start on a blanket.

    • Great colours, so unusual, real stand out squares.

    • C'est très beau Sharon et vraiment original.

    • WOW Sharon you do have such original ideas. The colours are gorgeous.

    • WOW!! Such a stunning yarn, PERFECTLY suited to these c2c.  The colourways are FAB, Sharon!

Hope we see them in a blanket soon.  :))

    • Oooo this yarn is very sophisticated Sharon!   A great design of square to showcase the colourways.   Neat to boot! Xx

    • Wonderful use of the COM...raiding our stashes is always a plus.

    • I always make this pattern using half trebles. Using DK yarn and size 4mm hook I find an 8" square can vary between 12 and 14 blocks depending on the brand of yarn.

I think your zebra stripes are fabulous!

      • I was thinking about what I said yesterday. While it's true to say that I always use half trebles (Mini C2C) when working with DK, I do use full size trebles if I'm making a blanket with Aran yarn. I've also tried Super Mini C2C for squares, which Ada introduced me to. This just uses ch2 and 2 half trebles in a block instead of 3 and is a very neat stitch.

        • I very rarely use DK weight yarn, since most of what is sold here in the USA is worsted weight (sort of like your Aran weight).   So my yarn and hook are larger than yours, and so are the blocks made in the C2C block stitch.    I haven't used any DK for this pattern for so long that I can't remember how many blocks it took to make an 8 inch square, but I'm guessing it would be 12 -14, just like you said.    I've use the Mini C2C technique at times, but it has been awhile for that, too.   Seems I just fall back on the old reliable one that I first learned so long ago.
