Spring has sprung (or at least it's the first official day of) in
the Southern hemisphere.
CoM (colour of the month) is
BLACK
What value has black????
Without black.....
Black Beauty could have been a movie/story about any old horse.....
Where would 'tall, dark and handsome' be?
(I know I'd be cryin'.....haha)
Without black, we'd be looking at daylight 24/7
AND
in our blankets we'd be missing a vital contrast colour
BLACK goes with ANYTHING!
Whether it be a little or a lot......
I know for some of us (counting me), black is a little tricky on the eyes........
enjoy as best you can. 
You may like to
choose an alternative.... we'd still love to see what you are making.

I had a skein of a black/gray variegated yarn that was a more bulky weight. I hope by adding a border in worsted weight solid black that it will play well with other squares in the blankets. Not "BLACK" exactly, but Black-ish.
They are actually square and the same size ... I just didn't lay them out too well.

I hear you about the appearance of the squares. Mine very rarely look 'square' or the same size, even when made from the same ball of yarn.🤣
