One of the nice things about the squares is that it gives us an opportunity to experiment with patterns and colours as well as keep a child warm, definitely a win-win situation.
we are so glad your internet search led you to us! Plain Jane squares, as we affectionately call them, are so important. It takes 35 to make a blanket to keep a child warm so each and every one, no matter how long it takes to knit is so very welcome.
By the way, there are some great photos and videos on the website/forum showing us our blankets and other goodies reaching their destination and also of all our parcels sitting in Ronda's house waiting to be opened and sorted. This is really a great team effort, so thank you :)
Hi Ann and a very warm welcome to KAS from Norfolk UK. We are a very friendly bunch so please feel free to ask any questions, there is always somebody with an answer, as I have found out!
Do take a look around the site using the tabs at the top of the page. The photo section has some wonderful pics of peoples work and when you feel ready it would be great to see some of your work but it isn’t a necessity to do this. It’s a great place for ideas and inspiration to keep the children warm.
You may also like to click on the 'Groups' tab at the top of the page and join our UK group. You would be very welcome to be a part of our chit-chat and get to know us.
So glad you have joined us. Happy knitting/crocheting :)
Hello Ann, so glad you’ve joined us. Keeping the children in South Africa warm has brought together a world-wide group of caring knitters and crocheters.
If you haven’t already, please read through the welcome message on the forum main page for helpful hints and things that might interest you. The FAQ category should answer any general questions you may have. If not, please ask. http://forum.knit-a-square.com
If you would like to try something different, you might like the Monthly challenge. This is a fun way to try new ideas or patterns. Every month, a theme is chosen, and if you wish, you may create something new and different......it could be making a plain square using a new colour, a different stitch or a totally new way of knitting/ crocheting. An 8”/20cm square is the perfect size for experimenting.
This month’s challenge is In Celebration of the Plain Jane. Check out the different interpretations of a “Plain Jane” or basic square. Making the basic square is a wonderful way to relax and still help the children. Plain Janes are the backbone of KAS. Since it takes 35 squares to make one blanket, squares are needed all the time.
We would love to see photos of your work. Click on the photo option at the top of the page and follow the prompts.
