I was partly through a purple blanket for this month, when my hairdresser gave me a bag of yarn. I decided there was enough yarn for background colours, so swapped and knitted this, so I could show her when I go in this week. The background yarn is not a true 8 ply, so I knitted it double strand, the border is purple. It is lovely and soft."

"Lovely intro Amy. A city called Jerez de la Frontera in the Provincia de Cádiz, Andalucia, has many Jacaranda trees, a wonderful sight. They can also be seen in lots of towns in Southern Spain.

"This beautiful sock yarn has a rich history. Fishermen's wives used to knit socks from it for their husbands who headed out to sea. Socks are still knitted from it to this day, especially in the villages that were originally fishing communities—including the place where I bought this yarn, from my dear Els at the yarn shop in Spakenburg. Its story dates back from 1920, Mr. Botter from IJsselmuiden then began producing his own yarn—to this day the very best brand for knitting socks, and therefore also highly suitable for squares. It is soft, non-itchy, and contains a high percentage of sheep's wool. I bought a black-blue-white and a black-grey-white version of this yarn. I made 12 squares. For the COM Black, in the squares with the blue yarn, the black isn't really visible on the photo.
