Morning Catherine , love knitting ( can't get on with crotchet )
surprised and pleased to receive greetings quickly and on this subject I have received one which seems dubious about a single woman wanting to be my friend , it came into my email account , they text of the mail suggests maybe from non English speaking person , wonder if these spam emails are regular via this forum
Hi Catherine, the yarn sounds excellent! Squares are always needed, but hand-warmers are very much appreciated by the children. Hats - we often get an overload, therefore if you could focus on squares and hand-warmers that would be a good way of using your bargain yarn!
Thank you Catherine :) I'm enjoying getting back into knitting, and ias you say, in such a friendly atmosphere and for a good cause makes it a pleasure!

Greetings Catherine from across The Pond in the middle of Canada. Regarding thicker yarn a friend and I decided to use ours up and we sent enough chunky yarn squares to make a blanket with a bit left over. The more warmth for the children the better I think. With winter now arriving there, they can also use any warm thick sweaters, or Winter Warmers or Go-Overs we can make up and send....you'll find easy patterns for these in the knitting and crocheting sections of Patterns above in the header. Glad to have you with us!
Hi Catherine, I am sure that the children will appreciate all the hand-warmers they can get if you like to make them. As for the chunky and aran yarns, they will make beautiful jumpers. If you look on the pattern pages, there is a pattern for Go-overs that could make up really well in chunky yarn. Happy knitting.
Welcome to KAS. Catherine, from western Canada. It's fun to look through the photos page - there are lovely examples of people's work and I like it for getting ideas and insipration too. Do you like to knit or crochet (or both !) ? Mostly I knit. Again, Welcome!
A warm welcome to KAS....from over here in Western Australia. :))
Making the basic square is a wonderful way to relax and help the children. Plain Janes, as they are affectionately called, are the backbone of KAS. Since a blanket is created with 35 squares sent by people from around the world, squares are needed all the time. The basic square being a garter stitch/single colour or striped square or I think it is single or double crochet if your preference is for crochet. By clicking on the KASpattern book tab at the top of the page you can also find lots of other patterns provided by our fellow KASers.
Please check out the 'Helpful Hints' tab at the top of the page as this may answer many initial questions you may have and will help you get started. Any other questions...just ask...we love to help. :))
Here is a link to postage information, including our packing slip that we attach INSIDE our parcel to assist in the unpacking/recording process at KAS in S. Africa.
If you'd like to see what other KASers have been making please click on the photo tab at the top of the page....and feel free to add photos of your own work...we would love to see them. Just click on 'add photos' and follow the prompts. Anything you care to make and send will be so appreciated by Ronda and the team and the children of South Africa.
If you want to see the most active discussions at present, you may like to click on the 'main page' tab and they are listed in the centre of that page...just pick one and click on it. It is a large website, but with so much fun and info.
Each month we have a fun theme to inspire and motivate us. If you would like to see this month's theme, please click on this link:
