Greetings Donna from up in Canada, 2 hours north of MN! Welcome to a worldwide network of loving happy people helping African HIV/Aids orphans and the poorest of the poor. Glad to have you with us!  It's so heartening to know that in this global, often so impersonal world, we're actually making a difference, a REAL difference, in the lives of these children. Check out the Forum, in the header above, for the various discussion threads, and Photos for all the lovely photos of members' work and Groups where you can join groups from countries around the world, not to mention Patterns where you can get inspired with easy level patterns of things the children really need, the right sizes and shapes.

When you click on Discussions, the Featured Discussions grouping (in the Forum section above) shows the most important subjects at the moment, latest challenges, latest news etc. I also recommend the Café KAS Discussion section, which contains the Our Furry Companions and Yarnaholics threads. I am so much a Yarnaholic!  Thanks again for helping the AIDS orphans in Africa!

Hi Donna, that sounds like it will be a pretty square...and warm !   Please add your photo when you're finished.  We love to see what others have done.

Hello Donna from your 'neighbour', I'm just a few hours north in Sault Ste. Marie, Canada.  So glad you have joined us. Keeping the children in South Africa warm has brought together a world-wide group of caring knitters and crocheters.

Check out the ‘Helpful Hints’ tab at the top of the page for information about the forum. “How Do I ????” and the “FAQ” category should answer any general questions you may have. If not, please ask.

Looking for patterns?  Check the KAS Pattern Book [see tab above] for garments and squares for the children.  We are focusing on children aged 3-9 years old.  This age group is in need of warm garments and blankets.

When you are ready to send your parcel, visit both these sites for important information.  Click Here for tips and here for postage rates.

Once you have sent your parcel you can check the squares lists. Every month, we list the squares, beanies and tops that have arrived in South Africa. To find the ‘Squares lists’ please click the Discussions tab [in the toolbar above] then on “Tallies/Item Count” for an up-to-date listing We also have a ‘Drive to Fill Ronda’s KASvan’ with squares and would appreciate if you would add to this challenge.  We have filled the KASvan already and are trying to fill it again before 16 September.

If you are interested in joining any of our challenges, please note: Your parcel does not need to arrive in South Africa before the end of the month.  Those of us who use sea-mail find parcels take between 6-10 weeks to arrive. Whenever your parcel arrives, know it will be appreciated and that you are keeping children warm.

Making the basic square is a wonderful way to relax and still help the children.  Plain Janes, as they are affectionately called, are the backbone of KAS.  Since a blanket is created with 35 squares sent by people around the world, squares are needed all the time.

We would love to see photos of your work. Click on the photo option at the top of the page and follow the prompts.

      Enjoy !

Hi Donna.  Welcome from Knoxville, TN.  This is a great group of folks all pulling together to help warm the aids orphans and vulnerable children of South Africa.  Glad to have you with us!  If you have any questions, just ask, and someone will get right back to you with answers.
