Yes it does feel great to get some sent away. You really feel as if you are making a difference. Well done on the first 9. I hope it is the first batch of many.

We run a challenge each month. For the next three months it is all about squares. We have a grand total of 55,900 squares we are trying to achieve and would love you to participate.
Don't forget to post photographs of your work. We have an awesome gallery of the work of the KAS community which is really inspiring.
Some of our members further support KAS by making a small monthly donation through Paypal (top left hand corner). This is invaluable help as it ensures we can continue to ensure that your work is speedily distributed to the most needy children in South Africa. We are deeply grateful for any donation we receive, be it monetary or squares to help the orphans. Thank you.

Hi Elizabeth. Yes you never know when you might see your efforts in the pictures. I have a photo I printed off an ezine of a little girl wrapped in one of my blankets - it is a great feeling and I did cry when I saw it. I also have pictures of the Soweto Gospel Choir wearing some of my blankets at an even in Philidelphia (don't know if you have read about that yet on the forum.) the nice thing about KAS is that there is always a chance you may see your work somewhere and it feels great when you do. Happy stitching.

Hi Elizabeth, yes send them. The topic of tails has been brought up again and again on the forum. I think tails of 2 meters was asked for at first when they had little supplies but then tails of 1 meter as supplies of spare tails began to gather. I did see a post recently about leaving no tail at all as they had plenty of yarn but I would like to think that any spare can be passed on to some of the grandmothers in SA who are able to knit or crochet themselves. If you have a little ball of left over yarn then perhaps you could put that into your parcel to ensure that the recipients of your squares is not short of sewing yarn. But really don't worry about there being no tails actually on the squares. KAS will be delighted with them. Hope that helps.

Hi Elizabeth, yes the squares are just perfect for using up odd bits. I usually am pretty disciplined about using up the bits so I never seem to build up a big batch. I tend to start a square using the smallest piece of yarn I have and then go onto a new ball to finish it. I always aim to improve my stash by using up the odd bits or odd textures first. At least it makes it easy to make multi coloured or striped squares that way. I also knit but much prefer to crochet. Happy stitching.

Welcome to the forum Elizabeth. Lovely to have another UK member. There is a huge demand for squares from our sewing groups in South Africa so you have joined at just the right moment. Do you knit or crochet or both?
