Hello Emily and welcome. This is a great place to practice your skills as nothing need be wasted, either time or yarn. You will be amazed how much you will learn, just by doing and there are so any helpful and supportive people here who will be happy to help with any queries or diffuculties you may have. I have knitted for many years but I'm newish to crochet and I have had loads of help and encouragement.
Emily I'm sure you'll do just fine hon. I'm not a brilliant self taught crocheter but I do my bit and most of my squares end up square now! Quite the accomplishment believe me. :)
Most squares are warmest when using the simple stitches...knit, garter stitch, purl...we get the benefit of it being relaxing and a good way to chill out on the veranda or watching tv. :)
Welcome Emily and hope you will enjoy knitting and/or crocheting for the AIDS/HIV orphans.... this site is great and we all seem to encourage one another to keep going... enjoy!
This red ribbon signifies us working to help the AIDS/HIV orphans in South Africa as well as orphaned children from other causes in South Africa and Zimbabwe as well. :)

Thanks so much for passing on info to others! If you know how many, you could mention it on the Knit a Squillion challenge thread, here:http://square-circle-forum.ning.com/forum/topics/knitasquillion-1. They love to hear of more news handed out, even an estimate would boost everyone's spirits. There are printable business cards, pamphlets, even a poster on the website here, that you can print off to put up or hand out, at this link: http://square-circle-forum.ning.com/forum/categories/spread-the-wor...
Thanks for joining us, I really enjoy this charity, we're actually making a difference! :D
