Hi Jane, thanks for the compliment. I was taught how to do these squares by a lady up the road from me. Once I was shown the technique I found it okay to do but it did require my full concentration. I don't think I could have learnt it from a book or from instruction sheets, which is the way I usually learn things.
It starts off with a square (I look at the given number of rows and stitches on the wrapper.) End off the square, with new colour cast on and knit 1st row of new square and join by knitting into stitch on side of 1st square. Purl back, knit next row, and again knitting into next stitch up on side of st square. Continue like this until second square is completed and then pick up along top of first square and knit 3rd square.
I have to admit that I battled initially and don't even know if I could still do it if I picked up the work again. Luckily kind neighbour is just a few metres up the road.
If you are ever on holiday in this part of the world (Natal south coast) we could met up and I could show you !!!
regards - Jen
Hi Jane,
here is a link to the little doll you saw in the foto I posted with the teddy bear pattern. It's called a Rainbow baby and the pattern is found at www.jeangreenhowe.com
I downloaded a PDF file and cannot copy it for you, which I tried.
Hope you find it okay.
Welcome to our warm KAS community. We hope you will enjoy the forum and your region's group. You should join the African Knitwits Group!
There are lots of great discussions going on in the forum, including the monthly challenges.
We are still continuing our July Challenge - keep a newborn warm, making blankets for abandoned babies, and there were some great results for the August in Africa challenge - you can see photographs under the photos menu. (Details of both challenges in the main forum). We're also continuing our September challenge which is also under "challenges" in the forum and have just begun the October challenge which is fascinating, please see click the link for further information:
