Postage from the US is very pricey, $10/lb up to about 10 pounds. After that it gets a little bit cheaper. When you post make sure you go to an actual post office, not a postal shop. Shops around me mark up the price almost 300%, yes that is right. I have been mailing about 20 pounds for about $160. I always laugh with my postal person saying go with the cheapest it is still expensive.
I usually use a 16X16X18 box and stuff it full. That means I post 3 to 4 times a year. The good thing is that my 20lb box has the same charge in SA as a 4lb package.
Sorry that I don't have the magic formula for a way to send thing to SA any cheaper.

Knitting, crocheting or looming an 8" square or two, or possibly even a few is a wonderful gift for the children. PJs (Plain Janes as they are affectionately known) are the backbone of all our blankets.
