I had to check about every 5 minutes when I felted the few things I have worked on. Then when you take them out of the wash they have to be blocked and smoothed out. I made a ring-bearer's pillow for a friend's wedding that I felted. It took 2 hanks of yarn and the pillow ended up about 6" x 8". But it was a very dense felt.
My daughter and I used to have a quilting shop. She has yards and yards of felted wool left over. We used some of that for the squares.
I'm thinking of knitting some squares and felting them in the wash machine. Maybe I'll knit them with stripes.
