      Marci,

Yes, that pattern can be frustrating, but it's so nice once you get it figured out!  Instead of changing to a J hook, next time try adding two row of single crochet to the bottom and 2 rows to the top.  If you do the entire pattern and the length isn't right, just keep adding single crochet rows until it is.  It doesn't matter if the heart is perfectly centered, so, as long as you can get it the right size somehow it will still be used!  When I was trying to write out the pattern, I ended up with A LOT of heart squares with the heart in different places in the square =).  Let me know if that helps!

Hi Marci, glad you figured out the problem.

Yes, we could finish more plain squares but I think the children need texture and motifs in their blankets. They have so little, that even one motif in their blanket would give them a new experience with colour/texture.  Besides there are lots of people who love doing plain janes so if we can do more, let's go for it !

My husband has watched me crochet and then rip out quite a few squares when I'm trying a new pattern.....  if I can't manage the pattern, I "create".

Now that you have sorted the pattern it will be a lot faster making the next :-)

      Looking forward to photos.

Yes, Marci, the pattern for the heart square is on the main Knit A Square website.  This link should get you there:  http://www.knit-a-square.com/free-crochet-patterns.html  It is "Rachel's Heart Puff Square".  If you look through my photos and click on one of the puff square photos, I listed some tips I figured out as I was making them.  The heart square is such a great pattern!  So cheerful and nice and thick and easy!  If you click on any of my other photos, I usually mention where I found the pattern and I put a web link if it was a pattern I got off of the internet.  There are A LOT of great crocheting square patterns out there!  Let me know if I can help with anything else =)!

      Well Marci....talk about perseverance !!!!

I'm not sure what you mean about Colour A.   Would you send me a PM with a photo and I'll try to figure it out.

Hi Marci, Elaine Jones finished a flower tile square and had a comment about round 6.  You may have found when making the long stitch into round 5 there was a  "bump" when the stitch was finished....just a bit of texture for the square :-)  If you click on the photo it will give you a larger picture which shows the bump.

Thanks Marci, I do enjoy making flowers !

And I'm happy to share patterns.

There are 2 flower patterns but I imagine it is this one you are interested in:

      www.sugarncream.com

Search "Flower Power".  You need to be a member but the membership is free.

The other pattern is found here:

Hi Marci, I left a respond to your comment on the wheel spoke square but just in case you don't see it ( things tend to disappear into the great abyss of the forum :-)

I'll be happy to give any assistance if you have questions about the pattern.  And of course, I would love to see a photo!!  For me, this pattern is one of my favourites.

      Enjoy.

Um, here's some square patterns I've found. I've used this first one many times. I'm not exactly sure which square you want so please let me know if these are misses eh?

      This one works up nice:

      Here's a knit one:

Bit of a challenge, that one eh? The next one is knit but a beautiful pattern and several knitters have/are using it:

As I'm not sure which square you're referring to, do send me more info if you can. Thanks so much!

      Jeanne :)

Hi again Marci.  Thanks for your reply.  I wish I could say we're into Spring but this part of Canada is covered in snow again...UGH.  Oh well, good excuse to sit inside and crochet eh?  Hope your weekend goes well for you.  We're all very friendly here and I love all the encouragement and humor and sharing of photos of projects.  I think we all inspire each other.

      Talk to you later,

      Jeanne :)
