Ronda has expressed the need for a newer vehicle to transport squares and blankets. Helen Flagg has proposed to the US Group that we raise funds to help KAS purchase a car. The idea has gone global and there is an initiative on the forum about it. Check the latest ezine video at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VK9mbUrGWI&feature=youtu.be
Also, The Humble Stitch Project has offered to ship all squares, hats, sweaters, cuddles, toys, etc. received in Florida by Dec 15th to South Africa for us for free. Check out their offer and the address on the Forum in the US Group.
Wanda from your comments on your yarn stash it sounds like you'll fit right in with our Yarnaholics discussion thread (found under Cafe KAS in the Forum). Sorry about your sister in law, I admit I've stopped counting how many people I know or are related to who've passed on from cancer, including my Mum and Grandpa. I try to eat healthy as a result, no soda though I'm still having "fun" eliminating sugar, it's so danged yummy! (I have a big bag of Scotch Mints right now that's proving my downfall, lol.)
The raspberry yarn sounds great, I love the flavor and the color. I'm crocheting myself a capelet right now for chilly mornings as Spring is so late but my daughter just bought me some lovely Norwegian 100% wool so I'm going to use that for the kids living outdoors. It's heartbreaking to hear they are afraid of having pictures taken because the authorities might track them down and send them to State run orphanages and they'd rather live in the hills and trees...but as you say, pure wool hats are a God send for them. I try not to get angry about it all and crochet instead. My Mum was a whiz knitter, she learnt during WW2 when if you wanted something you made it yourself. She did all those amazing lacy patterns though she once did me one of those chart graphed patterns...a Christmas vest. She threatened me with bodily harm if I ever asked her to make another one, lol, all those little balls of yarn hanging down kept tangling. I still have the vest. :)
Welcome to KAS, Wanda from up in snowy Canada above MN. We were supposed to have Spring but it left the building while that nasty big storm blew through. Hope you survived it okay. That's pretty cool the reason you're doing the knitting. I know I've wanted to help the AIDS orphans for ages and finding KAS was like an answer to prayer for me. One of our Administrator's uncles passed on and we did squares in his memory as he loved bright colors. Any ideas what your late sister-in-law would have enjoyed making most? Squares, hats, sweaters, vests? Did she have any favorite colors? I see some of the knitting on here and it reminds me strongly of my Mum who could knit, watch tv and talk at the same time and never miss a stitch. :)
I find KAS such a rewarding cause to be involved in and I hope you enjoy it too. Do check out the New Member Guide which is found by clicking "Main Page" in the header above.
