Ronda has expressed the need for a newer vehicle to transport squares and blankets. Helen Flagg has proposed to the US Group that we raise funds to help KAS purchase a car. The idea has gone global and there is an initiative on the forum about it. Check the latest ezine video at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VK9mbUrGWI&feature=youtu.be
Also, The Humble Stitch Project has offered to ship all squares received in Florida by Dec 15th to South Africa for us for free. Check out their offer and the address on the Forum in the US Group.
Hi Yael. I suppose I should have mentioned that we immigrated to Australia 25 years ago so it's been a long time. It was very difficult to leave everything behind but I'm very grateful that we did. Robert Mugabe has ruined a very special country. Not caring about anyone or anything apart from his own wealth and power (he's been in power nearly 30 years) evil old dictator.
Where are you from Yael?
We will be having the reunion in South Africa. Zimbabwe no longer has the infrastructure. It's true that people live behind gates and bars in South Africa, but once you're used to it, it doesn't detract from every day life. It's just what you're used to I suppose. I lived there for a couple of years in my early 20's and I loved it! It is hard to deal with the poverty though x x x
The whole family is originally from Zimbabwe. When we moved to Aus, most of the rest of us moved to SA, which is why Ronda is there.
We'll take as many blankets and squares as possible. We are going for a huge family reunion which has been in the planning for many years so it's very exciting indeed!
Thank you very much for your message. South Africa is a most beautiful country don't you thinks so? It's hard to see so much poverty though which is why I think KAS has been so We're so happy that you stumbled across KAS too! We need lovely supporters like yourself to keep the program going.good for our family.
I am sure that if people were travelling to SA they'd be happy to take along some squares, the only problem is, if you advertise that you're heading over you may be inundated!
We're heading over in March next year which will be wonderful but there's only so much you can carry right?!?
Thank you for your support Yael, I hope to hear from you again soon x x x
Welcome to our warm KAS community. It's great to see you. We hope you will enjoy the forum and your region's group. You should join the USA group.
There are lots of great discussions going on in the forum, including the monthly challenges.
We have a challenge every month, if you want to get involved please do. It's not compulsory at all but some of the work done is just lovely. Have a look at the November challenge - the SLIP-OVER (under challenges in the main forum) this will give you an idea of some of the fantastic work this community is doing for the children of South Africa. Thanks for your message, sorry I've taken so long to reply. I hope you'll forgive a quick reply. We're just so busy leading up to Christmas.
Your family history sounds fascinating. Best of luck with your knitting Yael, again I'm sorry for the short reply, but just so much to do!
If I don't speak to you beforehand, have a very happy Christmas and a safe new year.
