Hello Yvonne. A huge warm welcome to you!! I'm just a teeny bit "west" of you in Nova Scotia. How wonderful to find someone from my own neck of the woods :))
Hello Yvonne, welcome from a fellow Canadian. I'm in Ontario, just a 'few' hours away from you :-)
Keeping the children in South Africa warm has brought together a world-wide group of caring knitters and crocheters. As the name implies, we focus on sending 8” x 8”(20 cm x 20 cm) squares to be made into blankets to provide comfort to the many children in need.
Please join in any conversation that interests you. There is also a Canadian group where we chat about things that are uniquely Canadian as well as the weather ! Look under Groups [see tab at the top] for 'Canadian Corner'.
Yvonne,
I am also a teacher and I worked with a knitting group several years ago. Shipping the squares to SA was the biggest problem because of the cost involved. We managed with the help of some parents and students from a nearby college. How wonderful that you can get the squares all the way to Capetown! Perhaps your former student would be able to send them via post from Capetown to Bryanston? You can contact Ronda at KAS for more info at ronda@knitasquare.com. Sometimes they take vacations in Capetown and perhaps could meet up to retrieve your package. Good luck!
Welcome to the wonderful world of Knit-A-Square from Nashville, Tennessee! So glad to have you with us in our efforts to warm orphans and vulnerable children of South Africa!
