Hi Bonnie. Regarding "non-washable" yarns...these will probably be used in the poorer areas. I am not sure what they would do with silk yarns as those living outdoors get rained on alot and am I right to think silk and rain don't mix? I know others have used alpaca and other fancier yarns, even mohair, mixed in with other yarns and everything seems fine. If it's a very fancy yarn I would include the wrapper from the ball if you have it, so people can see the care instructions for it. In general we're looking for durable yarns...the wools go to the poorest areas, for safety around open fires and also to the "Hill Children", the orphans around Johannesburg who live in the hills under trees and rocks (rather than end up in the State run orphanages) and they need wools and other yarns like that which can get wet in rain and still be warm, as they are outdoors 24/7. I think the fancy yarns would probably work up just fine. I've got a hat with mohair and alpaca in it and it's soooo warm. Just pop the yarn wrapper in the parcel and you should be fine. Also please write 100% wool" on the outside of the package as it goes into a separate pile than all the acrylic packages, reserved for those living outdoors. :) Was that clear as mud or did I help any? LOL ;)
