KAS is so much fun to belong to and the distribution picutres really keep you going!l 20 cm squares are always wanted!! I finally heard from my Christchurch friends on Friday! What a relief. they shifted out of town for a while and their families are all safe.I hope all is going well for you and yours. It must be very hard to see your city so changed. However, who knows what the rebuild will bring.
So nice to hear back from you! I am also a teacher and now have a tutoring practice in a pre-school to 12th grade private, all girls school in Philadelphia. Mostly I teach reading to children and adolescents who are struggling in school. Soon I'll be teaching knitting to third graders so I've been gathering needles and looms and yarn. We are on spring break here next week so we'll begin in early April until the end of the school year in early June. Hopefully, we'll make a few squares and hats!
Welcome, Melanie. I'm from Pennsylvania in the USA. We saw news reports of the devastating effects of the quake in Christchurch. I hope all is well for you and your family. Glad you joined us!
I wanted to extend our heartfelt thanks to you for joining KasCare and Knit-a-square's forum at a time when Christchurch and its people have been through such a devastating event. You express the spirit and the pluck of Kiwis who punch so far above their weight on every international stage.
Aside from Africa where my children were born, I think of New Zealand as a second home. I was lucky to spend almost a year there after university.
The scenes from the earthquake were too much to bear, especially the ruins of your cathedral. That monument for me captured the exquisitely condensed beauty of Christchurch. I've travelled reasonably broadly, and your city remains for me the most beautiful of the smaller cities I've ever visited. You must be beyond heart-broken.
All the more reason to thank you for giving to others at a time of great national and possibly personal need.
Kindest regards and best wishes to you and your fellow Kiwis.
