Blankets and hats and sweaters direct from our hands to their hearts, a win-win.
Well done for getting started on knitting, and squares are a good starting point - well done! I mix my parcels with vests, hats, squares etc: I buy the bags from the post-office (the grey plastic ones that do not rip and have a really tight seal) and just cram as much as possible in them squashing the air out as I go! I wrap a black bin liner round the top of the knitted items inside the bag, and then seal it - to be sure no water can get in. And a tip for you - it is cheaper to send by airmail than it is surface mail - how weird is that??!! My neighbour and I filled a box and her husband took it to the post office for us and sent it surface, not realising this and the counter staff didn't tell him. I have sent small packets with a couple of hats and ten squares, just whatever you can fit in. I always put a list of the enclosed items and name details etc in with the packet. If you find any plastic knitting needles they really need them, and black bin liners they need which is why I use them to protect the knitting. Well, when you feel ultra confident after doing squares, try the square vest - you can download the pattern - it is so easy to knit and lovely to think something you have created will be worn - lovely! Where in Derbyshire do you live? sorry - just being nosy! oh before I forget, keep a list of all items you post and they can go on the UK tally so we can all see how we are doing as a group! xxx
Welcome to Kas, I hope you get as much enjoyment from this great cause as I do - I'm sure you will. I love your gorgeous pooches/babies - my 2 boys are also four legged but purrrrrr! And you live just up the road from me, I am near Loughborough. I hope you enjoy printing off the patterns, and looking at other peoples work from the posted pics - it really is inspirational.
Hi Angela, Welcome to the KAS forum and I hope you will enjoy being part of this friendly & lively community. Do you knit or crochet or both? Around the world caring people are all taking direct action and team-working with the Ladies of the Soweto Comfort Club - it is making a difference to many parentless children. When you've had a chance to look around the site you would be very welcome to join the UK group for more local news and chat.
