Thanks, Jeanne and Kalai--how nice to have other knitters to visit with. I have questions! Am trying to find wool worsted yarn at the best price--any suggestions? I've always used US size 8 needles for worsted--gave away 17 vests and a handsome cable cardigan after my husband died whick I knit plus I've done sweaters for my daughter and granddaughter and myself--all with Lion Brand 'wool-ease' which is now part acrilic. I know how important wool is--years ago we wore wool bathing suits--that shows you how old I am (am a great grandmother to Luke, 19 months, and Kaden, 10 months). I knit baby outfits for each of them with size 1 and 3 needles (saque, booties & bonnet). For my squares I used a size 10 and cast on 32 stitiches which was what the first pattern I found said to do--I've read more now and would like to do it the way you people do--not particularly fancy, but warm and serviceable.
Hi Barbara, I agree with Kalai, the tails are no longer necessary. 8 squares...that's fabulous! Thank you so much. They sound like they'll be beautifully warm in that yarn too. I know what you mean, my heart reaches out to the orphans as well.
I just got a message from you regarding the tails of yarn left on the squares. As it turns out they are no longer necessary. Ronda in South Africa has more spare yarn then she can handle so don't worry about it at all. Thank you very much for your 8 squares, that's brilliant and not bad at all for 87 years young, go you!
It's lovely to have you, we need people with warm hearts such as yours to help the children.
Welcome to our warm KAS community. It's great to see you. We hope you will enjoy the forum and your region's group. You should join the USA group.
There are lots of great discussions going on in the forum, including the monthly challenges.
We are still continuing our July Challenge - keep a newborn warm, making blankets for abandoned babies, and there were some great results for the August in Africa challenge - you can see photographs under the photos menu. (Details of both challenges in the main forum). We're also continuing our September challenge which is also under "challenges" in the forum and have got the October challenge which is fascinating, please see click the link for further information:
