Brenda, my condolences for the loss of your Mom. It must be extremely difficult to have your father ill as well. But the memory loss was indeed a blessing. Making it easier for everyone. I lost my father recently and Mom is slowly adjusting to his absence. They were together 65 years.
Hi Brenda, welcome to the Forum from your "neighbour" in the Sault ! Keeping the children in South Africa warm has brought together a world-wide group of caring knitters and crocheters.
Isn't this fantastic weather for March ! We went for a walk in the conservation area north of the city where 2 weeks ago we needed snowshoes and today we wore hiking boots and had to avoid puddles. I'm thinking we'll have a major snowstorm before the end of March :-)
Hi Brenda. So long as the vest pattern is 3-4" longer than it is wide, any pattern will do for it. http://forum.knit-a-square.com/forum/topics/square-vest-pattern-cha... explains an easy knitted one, just look at the first replies in the thread. Here's a ton of slipover patterns:
Welcome to Knit A Square Brenda from up west of you in NW Ontario. I find KAS such a rewarding cause to be involved in and I hope you enjoy it too. Do check out the New Member Guide which is found by clicking "Main Page" in the header above. To reach the Discussions just click Forum above and if you click on Photos above, you will see items that are heading to Africa, in all colors and shapes, plus those that have arrived there. If you click on Groups, above, you can join the Canadian group or any groups you wish, to chat with. Any questions just PM me. :)
We have an increased need for cardigans, sweaters, Go-Overs and Slip-Overs in sizes 3 and up (to early teen), but if you have baby items made or donated to you, they will be delivered to those charities in Johannesburg which can distribute them. Hats that fit toddlers and will grow with them need to be made in small adult head sizes. As I have a large melon, I make my hats an inch or two smaller in circumference, but always stretchy, so they fit and then grow with the orphan.
We always need 8” (or close enough) squares, knitted, crocheted or felted from old sweaters. The G4 prison alone can handle sewing up 100,000 squares per month. Daunting until you realize over 80 countries are contributing now, 300+ schools, and each of us is doing our own small part which adds to the whole. Thank you so much for anything you can do for the orphans, there are literally millions of them.
So, welcome to Knit A Square! Blankets and hats and sweaters direct from our hands to their hearts, a win-win. And now we’re helping out in Zimbabwe too and they need everything there too. I just love making a real difference in a child’s life. So welcome aboard!
Hi Brenda, Welcome to the KAS forum from a UK member. We hope you will enjoy being part of this friendly & lively community. Do you knit or crochet or both? Around the world caring people are all taking direct action and team-working with the Ladies of the Soweto Comfort Club - it is making a difference to many parentless children.
When you've had a chance to look around the site you would be very welcome to join the Canadian group for more local news and chat.
You can also personalize your own page by clicking on the My Page tab on the menu. Also you can access Settings on this page and set your privacy terms. For questions click on the Forum tab and then KAS - Questions, Answers and Help.
Very glad AllFreeKnitting directed to you our global knitting family! Check out the New Member Guide by clicking the "Main Page" tab above. There you will find all kinds of information about KAS. Another great section to look over is the Photo tab - everyone is so supportive of the work on display.
Really sorry to hear about your Mother, I sincerely hope she didn't suffer too much as cancer is unpleasant for all concerned. Knitting her stash into squares and sending for the deprived and parentless children of Africa will be a wonderful tribute to her - especially 5 bin bags full! Take care.

I'm here if you want to talk.

Hi Brenda, from the way you worded your comment about being in NL with your Dad I'm assuming he isn't well ?
The falls at Wawa are hard to find but Kakabeka should be easier ! Ouimet Canyon near T.B. is also a great place to visit.
Maybe we will be sending NL the warm weather as the west is experiencing snow....and it always comes this way :-)
