Hi Cheryl Thanks for your comment about my beanie,s currently winging their way to KAS. I Use a 9 1/2" (24 cm) loom with 36 pegs and chunky wool, or 2 strands of double knitting. I usually loom about 15 - 20 rows for the brim and then a further 25 rows for the main body of the hat. They fit my husband comfortably with some stretch left (He has a smaller head than me) so they should be fine for a child. I usually take two evenings to make one, normally when I eventually get to sit down for a couple of hours at the end of the day. Happy looming to you. Ute
Welcome to Knit A Square Cheryl from up in Canada above MN. Glad to have you with us. Any questions just ask us. We are streamlining the site but it takes time. :)
Welcome, Cheryl! My sister lived in Greenbelt when she was first married...I remember it well! Now she lives in Silver Spring. I live in suburban Philadelphia and have been knitting and crocheting for KAS for 3 years or more. So glad you joined us!
Hello Cheryl, so glad you have joined our world-wide family of knitters and crocheters. We are dedicated to keeping the children in South Africa warm.
If you haven’t already, please read through the welcome message on the forum main page for helpful hints and things that might interest you. http://forum.knit-a-square.com
If you appreciate a “challenge”, you might like to join the Monthly challenge. This is a fun way to try new ideas. Every month, a theme is chosen to challenge the forum members to create something new and different......it could be a new colour, a different stitch or a totally new way of knitting/ crocheting. An 8” square is the perfect size for experimenting.
This month’s challenge is What a Beautiful World . The challenge is almost over but have a look at what some of us have made and if you have time, join us in making a square or two that express your idea of what makes this a beautiful world.
And as always, making the basic square is a wonderful way to relax and still help the children. Plain Jane squares, as they are affectionately called, are the backbone of KAS. They are always needed.
Whatever you decide, we would love to see photos of your work. Click on the photo option at the top of the page, click “Add” and follow the prompts.
