Hello my name is lindsay and i live in canada.. I have friends who moved from cape town to my city and they are expecting a little boy.. I really wanted to make a baby blanket for them as the south african flag but im struggling find a knitting pattern... I was wondering if you would be able to help me please... This is extremely important to me and I know would mean the world to them as sometimes they are a little homesick... The baby is due on January 31st So thankfully i still have sometime to find the pattern and get it done..
Thank you so much for this and looking forward to hearing from you
Greetings Fatimah from over in Canada! Welcome to a worldwide network of loving happy people helping African Aids orphans. Glad to have you with us. It's so heartening to know that in this global, often so impersonal world, we're actually making a difference, a REAL difference, in the lives of these children. Check out the Forum, above, for the various discussion threads, and Photos for all the lovely photos of members' work and Groups where you can join groups from countries around the world.
The Featured Discussions grouping (in the Forum section) show the most important subjects at the moment, latest challenges, latest news etc. I also recommend the Anyone Want to Chat Discussion section, which contains the Our Furry Companions and Yarnaholics threads. I am so much a Yarnaholic! Thanks again for helping the AIDS orphans in Africa. (and Gitta is right one never entirely forgets how to knit, my mum taught me 45 years ago and I still remember though I crochet now. I'm a bit of a plodder at knitting.) However there are videos online that will show you how to knit if you look. :) And if you have a local yarn shop usually someone in there knits and will happily show you how too. Any problems let us know and we'll find you some online links. :)
Hello Fatimah, so glad you’ve joined us. Keeping the children in South Africa warm has brought together a world-wide group of caring knitters and crocheters.
As a South African, you know the great need for warm blankets. I agree with Gitta, relearning how to knit is like riding a bicycle, once you get going you will do fine. An 8" square is a good way to practise those knitting skills.
If you haven’t already, please read through the welcome message on the forum main page for helpful hints and things that might interest you. The FAQ category should answer any general questions you may have. If not, please ask. http://forum.knit-a-square.com
We would love to see photos of your work. Click on the photo option at the top of the page, click “Add” and follow the prompts.
Don't worry, knitting is like riding a bicycle ... you never forget how to do it ;) We are all there to answer any questions you have or if you need any assistance. If you are looking for inspiration, check out our photo gallery and don't forget to post your finished projects :)
