      Hi Janet

Thanks for your question regarding an estimate of  how much yarn is needed for the Cozy Jumpers. Well - it all depends how fat or thin the yarn is - sometimes it might give a needle size, but something smaller makes it thicker!!! For example, some Aran is ideal for 6mm needles, some for 6.5mm - but the labels don't always reflect this.  If it is thinner stuff suitable for 6mm, probably about 250g (ish) would do it, 6.5mm around 300g. If using really chunky stuff on 7.5mm needles, nearer 500g.  If you have a lot of DK (loads of metres on a 100g ball) you can knit with 2 strands on 7mm needles (or 7.5mm) this is a good way to use DK.  I have used chunky before, then added stripes of 2 strands of DK.  So long as it more or less matches it's not a problem to a little one! Let me know if I can help in any way - good luck with it and have fun! Kathyx

Greetings Janet from the middle of Canada! Welcome to a worldwide network of loving happy people helping African HIV/Aids orphans and the poorest of the poor. Glad to have you with us!  It's so heartening to know that in this global, often so impersonal world, we're actually making a difference, a REAL difference, in the lives of these children. Check out the Forum, in the header above, for the various discussion threads, and Photos for all the lovely photos of members' work and Groups where you can join groups from countries around the world, not to mention KAS PatternBook where you can get inspired with easy level patterns of things the children really need, the right sizes and shapes.

When you click on Discussions, the Featured Discussions grouping (in the Forum section above) shows the most important subjects at the moment, latest challenges, latest news etc. I also recommend the Café KAS Discussion section, which contains the Furred, Feathered and Fishy Companions and Share A Yarn threads. I am so much a Yarnaholic!  Thanks again for helping the AIDS orphans in Africa!

I am knitting a striped square at the moment...I LOVE stripes....don't become too indecisive about what colour you want to knit with or you will end up like me with a kazillion crates of yarn that 'you just had to have' and you keep buying more yarn because you just couldn't find 'quite the right shade' in all the yarn you already have....lol.

Don't concern yourself with the talent of others, we are all at different skill levels and have different preferences....knit what makes you happy.  :))

LOLOLOLOL!! You really had me worried there for a minute...I was thinking I'm, not a doctor, what should I say?.....then I read your last few words hee hee hee. I think you should definitely take it VERY slowly...try the knitting for a while first....then slowly, slowly, THINK about going back to work...LOL

On a more serious note, hope you are 100% better soon.  :))

Well Janet, I hate confusing people, so guess I won't be improving in the  good housewife department anytime soon and as our last child (middle child...age 24) has just moved out I am looking forward to the extra time for knitting....not housework!!    LOLOL

That is wonderful, Janet...such enthusiasm...I LOVE it!!!

When you have finished your 'project', if you would like to post a pic of it in the photo section, we would love to see it...but no pressure, if you would rather not.  :))

Your 'hug' will be so appreciated by the children of S. Africa, Janet. Thank you.  :))

Funny you should say that, Janet :)  I connected with KAS back in April 2013 for the same reason you said ... to find something useful to do with my time and my yarn.  I found all that and more. I just know you will enjoy everything about this group. xo

Hello Janet.  A very warm welcome to you from Nova Scotia, Canada.  We are delighted that you have joined us.

      Hi Janet.

Welcome to KAS...from over here in very hot and sunny Western Australia.

Do you like to knit, crochet, or perhaps both?

Plain Jane squares, as they are affectionately called, are the backbone of KAS and are ALWAYS our most needed item. This type of square being a garter stitch/single colour or striped square and I think it is single or double crochet  if your preference is for crochet. By clicking on the KASpattern book tab at the top of the page you can also find lots of other patterns provided by our fellow KASers, if you are wanting to mix it up a bit and make other patterned squares as well.

If you click on the groups tab at the top of the page you will find all the different groups and you are free to join as many as you would like.  :))

Please check out the 'Helpful Hints' tab at the top of the page as this may answer many initial questions you may have and will help you get started. Any other questions...just ask...we love to help.  :))

If you'd like to see what other KASers have been making please click on the photo tab at the top of the page....and feel free to add photos of your own work...we would love to see them. Just click on 'add photos' and follow the prompts.

If you want to see the most active discussions at present, you may like to click on the 'main page' tab and they are listed in the centre of that page...just pick one and click on it. It is a large website, but with so much fun and info.

We also have a theme for every month that you might like to view and participate in, but there is absolutely no pressure to do so. The theme for March can be found here:  http://forum.knit-a-square.com/forum/topics/march-2014-challenge-ar...

Thank you for joining us. We hope you enjoy being part of our fun, friendly, caring community.  :))

      Happy knitting/crocheting.  :))
