Hi Pam. I am sending you two photos of my technique to sew them together instead of boring sewing I have crocheted them. In photo 1 I am hiding a stitch out of sight on the needle. It is basically 2 stitches -1 wool over needle with needle through the red and white pieces with the right side out and the back sides together as the crochet joining is part of the outside decoration. Photo 2 wool over needle and pull through the two stitches and finish up with one and then start again. I made it more complicated on the photo you saw.

Oh dear I can't post the photos here. Um plan 2 I will see if we are friends and try posting them there. Just selfies so not suitable to put in the general photos.

HI Pamela,  your album looks lovely with all those 'flowers' especially the pink ones for Rosa :-)

In my last note, I didn't explain myself very well. We try to keep all the photos in the theme discussion.  This is where people chat about the theme and comment on the squares people have made. Would you add your photos to the January Garden theme discussion found here:   http://forum.knit-a-square.com/forum/topics/january-theme-the-garde...

The January Garden Album is completely different from the theme discussion. Unfortunately Ning will only allow the creator of the album to add photos, which is why I added your pictures.

We do learn to work with Ning but it can be puzzling at time :-)

      Linda

PS If you have difficulty adding to the theme discussion, please ask and I'll talk you through it.

Greetings Pamela from the middle of Canada! Welcome to a worldwide network of loving happy people helping African HIV/Aids orphans and the poorest of the poor. Glad to have you with us!  To see and hear what we do I suggest listening to this great original song about KAS and how easy it is to get involved, written and produced by KAS members and supporters.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGvqcUZ4OGs&feature=youtu.be

It's so heartening to know that in this global, often so impersonal world, we're actually making a difference, a REAL difference, in the lives of these children. Check out the Forum, in the page header above, for the various discussion threads, and Photos for all the lovely photos of members' work and Groups where you can join groups from countries around the world, not to mention Patterns where you can get inspired with easy level patterns of things the children really need, the right sizes and shapes being mentioned.

When you click on Discussions, the Featured Discussions grouping (in the Forum section above) shows the most important subjects at the moment, latest challenges, latest news etc. I also recommend the Café KAS Discussion section, which contains the Furry, Feathered and Fishy Companions and Share A Yarn threads. I am so much a Yarnaholic!  Thanks again for helping the AIDS orphans in Africa!

Welcome, Pamela, from Cheltenham near Philadelphia in the USA. So glad you've joined us!

      Hi Pamela.

A warm welcome to KAS....from over here in Western Australia.  :))

Making the basic square is a wonderful way to relax and help the children.  Plain Janes, as they are affectionately called, are the backbone of KAS.  Since a blanket is created with 35 squares sent by people from around the world, squares are needed all the time. The basic square being a garter stitch/single colour or striped square or I think it is single or double crochet  if your preference is for crochet. By clicking on the KASpattern book tab at the top of the page you can also find lots of other patterns provided by our fellow KASers.

If you click on the groups tab at the top of the page you will find all the different groups and you are free to join as many as you would like.  :))

Please check out the 'Helpful Hints' tab at the top of the page as this may answer many initial questions you may have and will help you get started. Any other questions...just ask...we love to help.  :))

If you'd like to see what other KASers have been making please click on the photo tab at the top of the page....and feel free to add photos of your own work...we would love to see them. Just click on 'add photos' and follow the prompts. Anything you care to make and send will be so appreciated by Ronda and the team and the children of South Africa.

If you want to see the most active discussions at present, you may like to click on the 'main page' tab and they are listed in the centre of that page...just pick one and click on it. It is a large website, but with so much fun and info.

Here is a wonderful song created by one of our member's and her family. You might like to take the time to listen...you'll love it.
