Ronda has expressed the need for a newer vehicle to transport squares and blankets. Helen Flagg has proposed to the US Group that we raise funds to help KAS purchase a car. The idea has gone global and there is an initiative on the forum about it. Check the latest ezine video at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VK9mbUrGWI&feature=youtu.be
Also, The Humble Stitch Project has offered to ship all squares, hats, sweaters, cuddles, toys, etc. received in Florida by Dec 15th to South Africa for us for free. Check out their offer and the address on the Forum in the US Group.
Sally, it shouldn't be too much but mail from the post office and not those pack and ship stores. I did that once and it's almost twice as much to mail! I ship med sized boxes with approx. 40-50 awards for around $25. Hope this helps
Welcome to KAS, Sally from up in the Frozen North, aka Canada. :) I find KAS such a rewarding cause to be involved in and I hope you enjoy it too. Do check out the New Member Guide which is found by clicking "Main Page" in the header above. To reach the Discussions just click Forum above. Any questions just PM me. :) Welcome to Knit A Square! Blankets and hats and sweaters direct from our hands to their hearts, a win-win.
Oh, Sally, incidentally, I saw that you posted a question about mailing costs on the Floridians' group.
If you use the U.S. Postal Service, it seems to cost anywhere from around 75 cents to a dollar to mail each square. The more you mail at once, the less each individual square costs. I know it seems like a lot. Many KAS members end up holding fundraisers for postage. And for a time last year, a knitting store called Planet Purl was mailing our squares for us. You'll find some lively discussion and good information on this gateway page leading to several KAS discussions about postage issues:
I'm from Pennsylvania, but my eyes have been trained daily on Florida for weeks! Why? Spring Training! I'm a crazed Phillies fan!
But back to YOU! I'm glad to see that you've already joined the Floridians' discussion group. Don't forget to join the U.S. discussion group also. It's quite an active group, with interesting and informative discussion threads appearing all the time. Plus, we recently showed we could actually ACT as a group (no amateur musicals, now, don't worry! I mean that we're capable of united action! ;-D ...). We've adopted two South African creches, or child care centers and can't wait to see photos of our adopted kids!
