Hi Susan, Welcome to KAS - a lovely group of people and so willing to help with any questions you might have too. The photos pages are such an inspiration too with lots of creative ideas. The Plain Jane garter squares are the backbone of the blankets so I've been told - and a wonderful way to use up leftover balls of yarn from other projects or donations from friends! . Yes, I know what it's like when the heating goes out, also. A blanket becomes a best friend then! Welcome and Happy Knitting.
Hi Susan, just a warning......this can become quite addictive so you may see your one bag of yarn just keeps getting bigger and bigger. i started with just a few odd balls and now my stash consists of 5 wicker hampers/baskets and that still doesnt stop me buying another ball !
Hi Susan and a very warm welcome to KAS from Norfolk UK. We are a very friendly bunch so please feel free to ask any questions, there is always somebody with an answer, as I have found out! Do take a look around the site using the tabs at the top of the page. The photo section has some wonderful pics of peoples work and when you feel ready it would be great to see some of your work but it isn’t a necessity to do this. It’s a great place for ideas and inspiration to keep the children warm :)
So glad to have you with us Susan. Check out Forums for discussion threads and Photos for some of what's being created and Groups for a chance to join any of the chat groups you would like. Any questions just ask us. Greetings from way over in the middle of Canada!
Hello Susan and welcome to KAS from suburban Philadelphia in the USA. I have had a penpal in Melbourne for 50 years! We have been writing since grade school when we were both 12 years old and now we email and even speak by telephone for birthdays and special occasions. Sometime, I hope to visit Oz and meet her. So glad you joined us at KAS!
A big welcome from the UK Susan - thank you for joining us. We are a friendly worldwide group and if you struggle with anything about the site just shout - someone will pick up your message and help you.
Your sentiments are lovely - and to assure you that every square is needed and that we can make a real difference here is a message from Ronda who started off the whole KAS idea in South Africa -
"Knit a Square wrapped 40 kids in warm blankets this morning, popped beanies on heads, handed out sox, KAScuddles, warm tops, teddies, stationery, soup, bread & butter and floor mats - tiny shack where door would not close ... sleet and sounds of howling wind and kids coughing ! Still they smiled and sang thank you songs to us ... so sweet ! Keep them in your prayers it's FREEZING cold in SA !!"
