      Hi Susan,

BBC news is reporting severe  floods across Northern England and Scotland due to storm Frank; and I thought of you. I hope you are safe and dry. Take care.

      Best,

      diana

Susan are you aware you have won the award for October?  Click here:  http://forum.knit-a-square.com/forum/topics/october-2014-square-hea...   So many kind and very well deserved comments on there. I thought if you ever have a downer day this might be the perfect antidote for you!  Love, Jeanne

Susan, October it is !   You can amend the title [and anything else] because the theme is all yours :-)

Hi Susan I've sent you a friend request. Hopefully you will be able to correspond this way !!

Hi Susan, thanks for your comment about the Tunisian squares.  My Tunisian hook doesn't have a size but when placed beside a regular hook it looks like it might be a 5.50mm or a 6.00mm.  I used RedHeart Kids yarn for the squares.  It is a medium weight #4.  Having said that, I'm wondering if your yarn is charted the same way as here in Canada !  If you are having difficulty with the return row, would a finer yarn help ?

BTW, the Tunisian tutorial is great !  I have it bookmarked and am looking forward to her next lessons :-)

It is a pleasure Susan - thank you for your kind words, yes, KAS is a real global knitting/crocheting 'family' who care.  Knitting is a bit like playing the piano, some people are virtuosos, and, some of us are content to trundle along.  Everyone is supportive of each other's work, and, the inspired by shared ideas. I'm not a very good knitter, but loved the concept of team-working with the SA Ladies from the townships, and, taking direct action - so my best contribution is help with the organisational side of things!  Loved you vibrant coloured hats - Ronda says the firery colours go down well with the kids.

Welcome to KAS Susan and warm greetings from South Africa :)

    • Linda Maltby November 4, 2012 at 11:51am

Hello Susan, so glad you’ve joined us. Keeping the children in South Africa warm has brought together a world-wide group of caring knitters and crocheters. I'm also a crocheter and enjoy making squares for the children.

Great granny squares !   Exciting that you saw some of your squares and know they will be protecting a child from the cold.

If you haven’t already, please read through the welcome message on the forum main page for helpful hints and things that might interest you. The FAQ category should answer any general questions you may have. If not, please ask. http://forum.knit-a-square.com

If you would like to try something different, you might like the Monthly challenge.  This is a fun way to try new ideas or patterns.  Every month, a theme is chosen, and if you wish, you may create something new and different......it could be making a plain square using a new colour, a different stitch or a totally new way of knitting/ crocheting.  An 8”/20cm square is the perfect size for experimenting.

This month’s challenge is In Celebration of the Plain Jane. Check out the different interpretations of a “Plain Jane” or basic square. Making the basic square is a wonderful way to relax and still help the children.  Plain Janes are the backbone of KAS.  Since it takes 35 squares to make one blanket, squares are needed all the time.
