Ronda has expressed the need for a newer vehicle to transport squares and blankets. Helen Flagg has proposed to the US Group that we raise funds to help KAS purchase a car. The idea has gone global and there is an initiative on the forum about it. Check the latest ezine video at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VK9mbUrGWI&feature=youtu.be
Also, The Humble Stitch Project has offered to ship all squares, hats, sweaters, cuddles, toys, etc. received in Florida by Dec 15th to South Africa for us for free. Check out their offer and the address on the Forum in the US Group.
That one's a ton of fun -- ingeniously designed, too! I love the idea of knitting continuously from foot to head and back to foot again! Don't forget to post a pic of your little guy when he's done!
My variation just carries the knitting on farther till you have enough length to turn up a one-or-one-and-a-half-inch brim. I just keep trying the thing on and checking the length. Then you add a hand-wound pom-pom. The one thing about this pattern is that you have to make sure you have a big enough hook and chunky enough yarn. I usually use Nashua Wooly Stripe from LittleKnits, with the following gauge: 4-4.5 Stitches to an inch on U.S. size 8-9 needles (5-5.5 mm). And I use a size-H hook. But an I-hook might be even better, since they're asking us for bigger hats these days.
Welcome to Kas, Wendy. Have you gotten more decent weather lately? We've got like -30 up here in NW Ontario but we've not had one of your awful storms. Do hope you're being careful on ice and all that. I find KAS such a rewarding cause to be involved in and I hope you enjoy it too. Do check out the New Member Guide which is found by clicking "Main Page" in the header above. To reach the Discussions just click Forum above. Any questions just PM me. :) Welcome to Knit A Square! Blankets and hats and sweaters direct from our hands to their hearts, a win-win.
Hi, Wendy! Greetings from a fellow Northeast Corridor dweller! I must say, KAS is a great antidote for this crazy winter we're having! With all the friendship, encouragement and smiles on this forum, you'll win through to the spring for sure, and with many completed projects to show for it! Welcome!

The teddy bear is from this KAS website, through I don't know what section it appeared in.
Knitted Teddy Bear
Use any yarn and choose appropriate needles.
Teddy can be knitted all in one colour, or change colours to give him a jumper and/or trousers (pants).
The whole bear is knitted in one piece and folded in half and sewn up. It is knitted in garter stitch.
Legs: Cast on 8 stitches knit 16 rows (garter stitch).
Break off yarn and make another leg.
Body: knit across both legs (16 sts) and knit 15 more rows.
Arms: Cast on and knit 8 stitches at the beinnning of the next 2 rows.
Knit 6 more rows.
Cast off 8 stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows.
Head: knit 38 rows.
Arms: Cast on and knit 8 stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows.
Knit 6 more rows.
Cast off 8 stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows.
Body: knit 16 rows
Legs: knit 8 stitches( put the other 8 on a safety pin) turn and knit another 15 rows, cast off.
Second leg: pick up the remaining 8 stitches and knit 16 rows for the second leg. Cast off.
Make up teddy and stuff with approved toy stuffing.
Sew on a smiley face.
Stitch across the corners of the head to make the ears.
Happy knitting!
