67 BLANKETS FOR NELSON MANDELA DAY (SOUTH AFRICA)
lead by Carolyn Steyn
You will recall reading the April 17th Report from South Africa :
Knitting is trending in South Africa! where KAS outlined the challenge presented to Carolyn Steyn by Zelda la Grange, who was Nelson Mandela's personal assistant.
These blankets were packaged with a message from KAS to help the launch day on 7th April attended by Wendy, Erin and Ronda.
Have created this discussion so we can watch the progress of the challenge. Below are some of the photographs from the Facebook page of 67 Blankets for Madiba - then we'll keep updating regularly ready for the final tally!
Below is the outline from the Facebook page.
Zelda la Grange, long time Personal Assistant to our beloved late former President Nelson Mandela, presented me with the challenge of making 67 blankets for Mandela Day. (July 18). Obviously this would be impossible for me to do alone and so this group was established as a call for help to friends who are interested in helping those less privileged by making a blanket (with your own two hands!).
By July 1, I would like us to get together to hand in our blankets.
A worthwhile charity still needs to be identified, but that will happen in due course.
Blankets can be knitted, or if you can crochet, that is fine too. Blankets should measure 150 cm x 200 cm. (Standard single bed size). You can decide on your own size squares, your own colour - but preferably a darker colour so as not to show up dirt too easily.
One favour - if you pledge to do this, please keep your promise. I am counting on 67 people making a blanket each. We can have a lot of fun - and all for a fantastic cause in the name of our beloved Madiba, who will live on in our hearts forever.
