Another newbie

This is an amazing community. I have been looking for a charity, and the energy from the photos, stories, and discussions made my heart swell up. This is exactly how I would like to help, and every time one logs in and sees those children's eyes will understand why I am so touched.

 

My name is Kristin, and I am a crocheter from Minnesota. Everyone asks, "Why don't you knit?" Arggh. This is a crocheter's biggest pet peeve. ;-)  However, my grandmother taught me to crochet when I was young, but I did not pick up a hook again until last December. It came back to me quickly, and now I am learning far more than she had taught. I think of her every time I pull out my yarn.

 

I look forward to getting to know others... please contact me if you crochet, as well. I would love to swap patterns.

 

P.S. My most recent piece... not exactly charity, but my dad's hand got so cold when he made his evening martini. So, I made him a cozy. ;-)

    Welcome, Kristin! I love your shaker cozy. I live north of Toronto, Ontario and I adore Minnesota! I've only been there once but the people were so nice, they reminded me of my fellow Canadians. I'm a crocheter as well and I'd also like to invite you to check out my photo album. I really enjoy trying new patterns, although not all of them work out the way I want them to.

    Hi Kristin and welcome to KAS. I live in Leicester which is in the East Midlands (UK). I mainly knit but I am having crocheting lessons which I am really enjoying. So far I've made some granny squares. I have to practice for my lesson, but it really is a fun night.
    What a lucky Dad to have such a thoughtful daughter. Oh and I think you dog is beautiful.

    Greetings from a fellow crocheter !   This is a great place to chat and exchange patterns.

    How thoughtful ( and creative ) of you to make something that would keep your Dad's hand warm :-)

    Congrats on starting your first square.  The children love bright colours so the pink/purple square will be perfect.

    Greetings Kristin from just above you in NW Ontario Canada. I live about 2 1/2 hours north of I. Falls MN. I have always preferred to crochet and got a chuckle over your "pet peeve". I hear you. Mum taught me to knit (she was a whiz at it) but it's not relaxing for me, so crochet it is! For squares I love Mary Kristel Lokken's Chain Stitch Square, first time I've done a "round and round" square and actually got it square and not runkled up. Otherwise I do rows back and forth, hdc, dc or the sc/dc combo which works up fast to an 8x8. For me nice and simple patterns work best. I can do the fancy ones but at 59 I feel I need to get going not slow down, lol. Glad to have you with us!

    That pinkish purple edged with navy sounds like a really good color combo. :)

    Hi Kristin!  This really is an amazing community;  I really enjoy it here too!  It's nice to be able to make a difference in the world, even if all we can do is small things. 

    I'm a crocheter too =)!  If you click on my purple heart square picture, it should take you to my page.  You can look through my photos and if you click on any that you like it should take you to the photo with any notes I left;  I usually try to tell where I found the pattern I used =).

      How funny, Rachel... I downloaded this pattern yesterday. What an amazing piece of work. You are a true artist! I am already creating my first block with a wild pinkish-purple and thought I'd edge it with navy.

    Welcome Kristin, glad to have you join our happy community. I am from Norfolk, England. I am a knitter but a can manage to crochet a square. That is by sheer luck and I cannot understand a crochet pattern as yet but hoping someone will teach me soon. I love your martini shaker, so cute but also very useful I'm sure
