On Christmas Eve 2019, Athele and Larry (her finance) drove over 300 km to Clarens to distribute about 100 blankets to the children. This area is the coldest part of South Africa because of the high altitude. Free State Province is where we just started a new satellite group in 2019. Athele's distribution was in a new area of the province.
Approaching Clarens
Athele writes from her Facebook page:
Some happy snaps of the crowd that gathered to receive gifts of love at Knit-A-Square’s Clarens Christmas Eve distribution. Massive thanks to the wonderful Purton ladies in the UK who got us here, every kind heart across the globe that laboured to provide all the beautiful items of comfort for disadvantaged children of South Africa and the folk of Tshepong Community outreach which cares for 200+ children in town who are listed as vulnerable, who helped gather 100 of these children this morning for our outreach.
Individual pics to follow as I edit them to give you the best smiles they had to offer. Thought I’d start with a hint of the colour you brought to these children today!
Most grateful to Tona, Hilda from Holland and Ouma for help in getting the pics to happen and all the kiddies to come this morning!
In an effort to identify as many contributors as possible the pictures of this distribution will be posted in small groups for ease of comments. If you see a square, blanket, hat or toy that you sent to KAS. Please let us know. Every child did receive a pair of hand-warmers, they were placed inside the beanies for easier distribution.

These last pictures are of the homes in the area.
This is just a reminder at how fortunate most of us are around the globe.
When Athele ran out of blankets, she was still able to distribute some toys, beanies and hand-warmers.

Here are the last set of pictures from Athele's distribution.
Athele:
The last ten of ninety one vulnerable children of chilly Clarens to be gifted with at least a blanket, if not also a beanie and hand warmed set with cuddly toy to comfort. Tona, a representative from the Tshepong outreach that help over 200 children in need, who helped bring the children together on the day and along with Oupa helped me co-ordinate the distribution, advised at the end when it became clear that as always we had more children than gifts, we gave only blankets. And then that sad moment when we only had beanies and toys to give along with promises of next time.
Blanket with toys attached is from Chris Chiplen and the horse is from Bozica Balenovic Duracic. This young boy was given another Christmasy blanket, but exchanged it for this one later.
Here is the new owner of the Christmas blanket.

So many lovely photos of the children with their blankets etc. I’m thrilled to see my third blanket in this distribution, I hope the little boy enjoys playing with his little cars on his blanket ‘track’ by day, and the blanket’s warmth at night :))

Marion Davies made these amazing squares and Sarah Pasha sewed them together.

What a wonderful batch of photos! Yes Bev, there are lots of Mary’s toys being shown here.... and soon to be cuddled! I was buying the toys, when Mary was making them for a charity shop, but now, she gives them to me for KAS and loves to see the photos of the children with them :))
Please thank her for all of us, and I hope she enjoys seeing her creations here.
