I joined KAS just over a week ago but am still finding my way around the site so I'm sorry for not having introduced myself earlier.
I'm Zoe and I'm married to James. We have two boys Joshua who is 6 years old and Kai who is 4 months old. Kai has been my inspiration. I'd not knitted for quite a long time and it wasn't until my pregnancy that I remembered that I could knit! Since Kai got me knitting again I thought it would be nice to do something positive that would also help other children. I've been looking for something suitable but it wasn't until I bought a knitting magazine on a whim and accessed their website which lead me to yours that I found a charity that I thought I would like to help.
I'm on maternitiy leave at the moment but will probably decide to stay at home. Life seems to be so full what with school, baby clubs, housework etc. I wonder now how I ever managed to fit work in! I try to do some knitting once the children have gone to bed. I finished my first square several nights ago and am just starting on my 2nd. At some point I also hope to teach myself to crochet too but being realistic that might take a while!
In the meantime I'm looking forward to knitting squares and meeting you all.
Zoe

So many of us really appreciate having a good purpose to knit for. Its especially good when every square counts. I find squares can be very satisfing as they don't take too long to see a result! However just now I am having problems with size. I knitted one square that came out 9" wide by 8'' long. So I tried four less stitches and then I got a second square 9" wide. I was so sure it would be OK with four less stitches! I really hope those people in SA are creative with their sewing!!
and Sue, your two abstract squares will suit mine. They are short cos of running out of the particular yarn I was using.
Ah well, all adds to the unique designs of the blankets
