We are thrilled to report that our first 'shipment' of 294 squares is on its way to South Africa!  We also sent 12 hats with the shipment.  That represents our first quarter's work.  Our group is known as The Square Circle.  We started up in our small country church late January 2011.  Funny thing....13 came together that Saturday....12 didn't know how to crochet and 1 wanted to learn to knit!  When I made the invitation, I thought at least the majority would know how!!! :)  So we met the next Saturday to continue 'lessons' and another 5 new people came....they wanted to learn, too!  We now have 22 gals from 8th grade to mid-80's involved.  Great thing is that this is not just our church family....it's God's family.  Friends bringing friends from other communities and other faiths.  It's wonderful!

I am pleased to tell you that everyone is an avid 'hooker' :) or needle clicker.  The gals in this group are amazing.  They come together the last Saturday of each month.  We hook or click and tell stories of how our work during the month has made new friends or shared the mission of Knit-A-Square.  Truly a joy.

There are already over another 100 squares for April's work.  The Sunday after each group gathering the squares are brought to the altar at church and offered for blessing.  We trust God to bring hope, love, and blessing to those who stitch squares together and those who seek warmth from the blankets.

Peace and blessings,

Sharon Halter

  • Great to have you and the Maplewood Community on baord Sharon. What a lovely story. Thank you for sharing it with us, I look forward to hearing more from you in the future.
  • Hi from the UK!  Well done for all the squares and hats in your first shipment.  Also for bringing together such a bunch of caring people who wanted to join in even though they didn't initially have the skills to take part - truly heartwarming.  The blessings you give your squares will undoubtedly work their 'magic' in the parentless & vulnerable children. Thanks Sharon for providing additional inspiration for the rest of the worldwide Kasers.
