Celebrating the gift of Handwarmers
The patterns for the Hand-Warmers found in the KAS Pattern Book have been created specifically for young children.
They are perfect for a child and will appear small when you have finished. Please remember they are for children and therefore will not fit an adult hand. The children who receive handwarmers are between the ages of 3 and 9 years of age. Their hands are small since many suffer from malnutrition.
These handwarmers have been crocheted or knit following the instructions in the
Please follow these suggestions to create hand warmers that will be useful for the children.
* 4.00mm [G / 6 US] hook /needles as recommended in the patterns.
* Soft acrylic yarns in DK/Light worsted/ thin 8 ply. If you are concerned about warmth we recommend that you use 100% wool or a wool/acrylic blend. Do not use a thicker yarn.
* Follow the instructions in the patterns: Crochet - Knit - Twisted Rib
*The Hand Warmers will be between 11.5 and 14 cm [4.5 and 5.5 inches] when laid flat, un-stretched, not folded and not sewn up.
*For crocheters: The ribbing must go around the hand to give the needed stretch.
Hand-Warmers are a great way to use up small balls of yarn and keep children warm and happy.

MEET THE KAS FAMILY - STELLAR KNITTERS
Meet the KAS Family - August 2017
The Stellar Knitters hail from a land up north, Canada.
Stellar Knitters began with an invitation from a Librarian at our local library, most likely through fellow KASer Gloria Grandy. In October of 2014 some people were contacted and what started as two knitters grew into 20. They meet every Friday from 1-2pm, and average 12 attendees every week. Ages for the members range from 35 to 85 and they have careers including librarians, retired teachers, nurses, office workers and homemakers.

THAT WARM FUZZY FEELING
by
Leanne Hunt
Leanne has produced two more of her excellent reports since last month's edition of KasSnippets as to what is going on in South Africa and with the team in the office. On 2nd August Bongi spoke to Ronda regarding the children in an area of Johannesburg known as Hillbrow and her concern that the children have too few clothes, and, of course, Ronda immediately sprang into action.
Her next report a few days later focuses on the going's on at the office, and her chats with Ann Barnard. Leanne also mentioned how chilly it was in Johannesburg, with a brisk wind followed by a fierce dust-storm!

NEWS EXTRA AND A LAST LAUGH
Mabel's birthday celebration cake - and what a cake!
Any volunteers - can you imagine the state of the bathroom after washing this lot?
Replies
Thanks so much Pam for this great edition of Snippets! ......and the Spa day......you made MY day!! :)))
Thanks for another great edition, Pam. Everything we need in one neat and colorful package! Happy birthday to Mabel :)
Love your last laugh. I'm not volunteering though ... haha ...xo
Lovely report. Good to hear that more goodies are coming in to refill the KAS shelves. Happy belated birthday for Mabel too.
Getting a bit concerned that there are still no parcels from me in the July list though. I sent parcels in December, February, March and May that should have arrived by now.....
Hi Wendy, I have sent an e-mail about this to Ronda. Will let you know the answer.
Thanks Anneke. :-)
