The pattern in the KAS pattern book http://www.knit-a-square.com/sites/default/files/Knitted_Hat_Beanie... is very simple and could easily be knitted in the round. All you would need to do is to work backwards and forwards for the decrease at the top. It's made in a thicker yarn so fewer stitches needed too.
Hi Rachael, I don't like knitting ribbing either. I knit garter stitch beanies. I knit in 8 ply with 88 stitches. It's fewer stitches than the rib pattern Would work fine in the round. Cheers
Hi Rachel, you might like to try this one: www.thingsforboys.com/2011/07/simple-knitted-beanie - it's my 'go-to' ribbed KAS hat. I find 104 stitches in double knitting yarn works out to about the right size. I hope to see your hats soon!
