Today my husband and sons took themselves off to a football game. I decided to take myself off to have lunch, by myself(!) to the local Coffee Club. I have NEVER done that and I have frequented that shopping centre for 8 years. Meant to be?? While I was waiting for my order, I picked up an old copy of That's Life and read the article. I ate my lunch, went straight into Crazy Clarks and bought wool. I came home, looked up the site, posted on my Facebook page and have emailed my mother-in-law. I also emailed my best friend who is an Assisant Principal at a school in Sydney to get her school involved and another friend whose 12 year old daughter gets her friends, their mothers and church involved in this sort of thing. I am a Family Day Care Educator and I have emailed my Scheme about getting a group together out of our 44 educators. Not bad for a few hours' work. I haven't even knitted my first stitch yet. A big, excited hello from North Side of Brisbane, Queensland. Finally, at the age of 41, I can say, "THIS is my charity"

  Hi, I too read the Take 5 article and have been knitting since. I have sent one small lot of 12 and last week sent off 35 pieces, some beanies and squares. I have found that it is about $1 a piece to post. I babysit my GS at his home and have spare time to knit something simple so KAS certainly fits and of course its a great cause. i havent knitted in years but am getting faster.In May I knitted ten squares and 5 beanies so in June I set myself a task to double it, just got finished on the last day.

I love your story Jodie. There's over 300 schools involved in Knit A Square now, mostly they've ordered the School kit you can get from us (see Main Page right hand side or click here: http://www.knit-a-square.com/teacher-resource.html ), that explains everything. One of my favorite stories involved a school where the kids knitting squares would gather under a big tree in the schoolyard during lunch and knit together. The academically less gifted kids caught onto knitting right away and they ended up teaching the more academically gifted kids how to knit, which was a huge boost to their self esteem and a win-win for all sides. :)

I think Knit A Square is the loveliest reason ever for me to buy yarn! :D Now my "addiction" has a reason, lol!

Phew Jodie, just reading all that activity makes me want to have a lie down! KAS really welcomes this kind of dynamic response and action, brilliant. It was without doubt 'meant-to-be' and you were guided to pick up that magazine.......you've already caught KAS disease without knitting a stitch. Have to warn you, there is no cure!

I saw your article in Take 5 in early April which happen at the right time as I was going to be on sick leave for 6 weeks and it would be the perfect way to fill the hours and as my favourite hobby is knitting. I started trying to make the squares but they were too big or small so I thought I'd trying making beanies.

Since I stared I've made 55 and I'll just keep on knitting them in various sizes and colours.

Your organising does a wonderful and worthwhile job to help those less fortunate.

Hoefully I can provide with many more beanie's and hopefully squares..

It's so lovely to have you with us. I've just been looking at the photos of your beautiful hats - they're gorgeous.

It almost seems a pity for you to make squares but if you are wanting to, as you are such a good knitter and sizing is the only difficulty, perhaps the diagonal square might bTe the answer?   Thank you for lovely comments. The first six or seven beanies I made I used every colour I had then I realise it take forever to sew them up so I limited it to two or three
  
  I'll have a go at making a diagonal square if it doesn't work I'll stick to making beanies.

Hello from Golden Fleece qld Australia, thanks for bringing this to the notice of a lot of people, too cold to do the farm work so squares here I come, already started and hope to get a group knitting from the charity i work with. Cheers Lainey
