Greetings Lin from across The Pond in the middle of Canada. Your work looks lovely and I hope that you can make us some larger items for the toddlers and older children as well as they are sorely needed. Welcome to a worldwide network of loving happy people helping African Aids orphans. Glad to have you with us. It's so heartening to know that in this global, often so impersonal world, we're actually making a difference, a REAL difference, in the lives of these children. Check out the Forum, above, for the various discussion threads, and Photos for all the lovely photos of members' work and Groups where you can join groups from countries around the world.
The Featured Discussions grouping (in the Forum section) show the most important subjects at the moment, latest challenges, latest news etc. I also recommend the Anyone Want to Chat Discussion section, which contains the Our Furry Companions and Yarnaholics threads. I am so much a Yarnaholic! Thanks again for helping the AIDS orphans in Africa!
Lin, thank you for the information on the Baby Surprise pattern. I will try to find it on-line and see about the cost to purchase. The sweaters are lovely and look like fun to knit!
Lin, do you have the baby surprise jacket pattern that can be shared? I found one version but it does not quite look the same. Your sweaters are beautiful! I mostly knit so I was delighted to see your latest sweaters. I have a new granddaughter and would like to make one for her as well as others for KAS.
Hi Lin and welcome to KAS from Shropshire. Do look in on the UK Group forum as we seem to be having a flurry of people joining from all over Yorkshire.
Hello Lin, so glad you’ve joined us. Keeping the children in South Africa warm has brought together a world-wide group of caring knitters and crocheters.
If you haven’t already, please read through the welcome message on the forum main page for helpful hints and things that might interest you. The FAQ category should answer any general questions you may have. If not, please ask. http://forum.knit-a-square.com
If you would like to try something different, you might like the Monthly challenge. This is a fun way to try new ideas or patterns. Every month, a theme is chosen, and if you wish, you may create something new and different......it could be making a plain square using a new colour, a different stitch or a totally new way of knitting/ crocheting. An 8”/20cm square is the perfect size for experimenting.
This month’s challenge is South America and Carnival in Rio . Have a look at what some of us have made and then join us in making a square or two that is your interpretation of this challenge.
And as always, making the basic square is a wonderful way to relax and still help the children. Plain Janes, as they are affectionately called, are the backbone of KAS. Since it takes 35 squares to make one blanket, squares are needed all the time.
Whatever you decide, we would love to see photos of your work. Click on the photo option at the top of the page, click “Add” and follow the prompts.
