      Hello Louise,

you are having a hard time, so perhaps some therapy would be making squares. I get stressed about things and have to knit or crochet just to clear my mind of all the things that are crowding in on my mind. I got to the point where I just didn't need to make any more knitted thrings for myself ! And it was when I started looking for a charity to knit for that I stumbled upon the KAS charity.

      Hi Louise

Best wishes for a great birthday.  :o)

Hi Louise and a very warm welcome to KAS from Norfolk UK. We are a very friendly bunch so please feel free to ask any questions, there is always somebody with an answer, as I have found out!

Do take a look around the site using the tabs at the top of the page. The photo section has some wonderful pics of peoples work and when you feel ready it would be great to see some of your work but it isn’t a necessity to do this. It’s a great place for ideas and inspiration to keep the children warm.

With regard to your question: you can send as many as you like but it is best to keep to 'small packet rate' which is about 2kg or under and send by surface mail (much cheaper). It may take longer to get there but dont forget that things are arriving all the time. I'm sure somebody will pop by and give the measurements for a small packet as I cant remember quite what it is.

Happy knitting/crocheting and look forward to seeing some pics of your work if you feel happy about uploading and sharing :)

Glad to have you with us Louise.  Greetings from across the Pond in the middle of Canada! You can ask anybody questions to find your way around. There's a lot of cheery chatty Brits in the Groups section on the UK group.  You can join as many groups as you want, check out the Photos section, in the header above, for the latest efforts and on Forum join in the chats and challenges. I'll be away on holidays but there's lots of friendly folks here to help out.  Again, good to have you with us!  Love, Jeanne  :)

I have knitted for years and crochet a bit but am not brilliant at both - but keep going!  Lots of the photos on my page are from wonderful ladies who contribute to KAS and send them through me - there are about 60 ladies in this area who knit via local churches and craft groups etc and I fundraise to send them to KAS - keeps me out of mischief. :-)

We look forward to seeing or hearing about your squares Louise.  The lovely thing about KAS is that we all do different things  and everything is welcome - I think we all complement each other

Well, making squares is a great way to practise the crochet - and have a look at our Photos tab for some amazing inspiration  - but don't be over-awed - many of us keep at the "Plain Jane" simple squares to set off the wonderful creations of our very talented members.

      Every square is welcome.

Welcome to KAS Louise, so glad you have joined our world-wide family of knitters and crocheters.  We are dedicated to keeping the children in South Africa warm.

If you haven’t already, please read through the welcome message on the forum main page for helpful hints and things that might interest you.  http://forum.knit-a-square.com

Do you like to make hats ?  Ronda, in South Africa, has asked us to make 600 red and white ones !  Click here to find out why.

And as always, making the basic square is a wonderful way to relax and still help the children.  Plain Jane squares, as they are affectionately called, are the backbone of KAS.  Since it takes 35 squares to make one blanket, squares are needed all the time.

Whatever you decide, we would love to see photos of your work.  Click on the photo option at the top of the page, click “Add”  and follow the prompts.

Warm greetings from South Africa :)

Welcome to KAS, Louise! I'm from suburban Philadelphia in the USA. Glad you joined us.

Hello Louise - welcome to KAS from another UK member.  Great to have you with us.  One of the moderators will send you a longer message soon but in the meantime I hope you enjoy being with us.  If you want to click on Groups then UK you will find the UK forum where we natter about all things KAS and any thing else too.   I cannot remember who else is in Yorkshire but I'm sure there is someone.  I love the county and visit often but live in Shropshire.  Hope to "see" you here again soon.
