An early and very special Mandela Day Distribution...
Mandela day IS on 18/07, but … today (16th, another very cold day in Jozi) Wandi and Nathi left the KASbarn loaded with colourful Mandela Day blankets … destined for a celebration with 50 children in an informal settlement - quite newly established and in need of some TLC.
Nathi and Wandi ready to roll …
KASvan packed up …
Driving into the informal settlement …
How DO they keep warm at night in those little shacks ?
KAS is here.
We loaded up the van with blankets, beanies, handwarmers, cuddly toys, apples, biscuits and packets of crisps … and our own favorite HUGE comfort bear, Nelson, which seemed appropriate !
For this very special day of remembering Madiba, it was really good to have all the usual distribution gifts in stock !
The little ones seemed to enjoy it all as you see.
Holding the card (that pic is from one of our earliest distributions in 2009 !
Happy Madiba Day … Rainbow Nation
Jerusalem Creche
Ahhhh snuggled up warm.
Spare a thought for our Viv who is in bed with flu and couldn’t come to the KASbarn today.
Thanks as always for your support so we can bless these kids
I spy my striped blanket in the 5th photo from the bottom. Thank you for this.

Fantastic, I saw it too. Also note 2 of Arlene's smart dolls in 4th from bottom pic, the child 2nd from left with bright orange hat on, and the child to the right of 'Nelson'. It's great to see so many hand made toys too.
Thank you, Karen! for spotting that for me. still recovering from months of eye surgery. this put a smile on my face today for sure. when I get my glasses next week. I will have a better look. Lovely to see the children happy.

Another bakers’ dozen of the truly impoverished children contributors to knit-a-square reached, in Lion Park informal settlement, last Monday. Hope you’re all good with the dribs and drabs way in which I’m sharing pics of the 60 children we gave blankets, beanies and soft toys to. It’s as I’m able to carve out time to clean up the pics and put together the post.
Squares from Cathy Riley and Bev.
Look at the smile on that mums face. She’s over the moon that her darling child got a beautiful blanket.
Thanks Liz for putting this one together…it’s gorgeous.
Squares from Ada and Mili.
A counting number blanket from Sunel.
Linda Curtis did a marvelous job sewing these Cathy Riley squares together.
Another blanket sewn together by Liz.
This gorgeous one arrived in the post from Julie Martin.
A marvelous blanket by Sandra Jones.
Beatifully made by Sharon B.
Another blanket by Sunel.
Estelle and Ma Lizzie matching blankets, beanies and toys.
So grateful to all for their labour especially Estelle and ma Lizzy and of course Ronda for keeping the whole engine running.
