AFRICA - MARCH 2026 THEME
Across the African continent, childhood looks very different for millions of boys and girls who have lost one or both parents. The scale of this crisis is staggering; tens of millions of children are growing up as orphans, making Africa home to one of the largest orphaned populations in the world. Behind these numbers are stories of hardship, resilience, and survival.
From the loss of parents due to disease, poverty, or conflict, to the daily struggles of accessing food, education, and healthcare, orphaned children face challenges that few of us can imagine. Yet, in the face of such adversity, there is also hope. By understanding the scope of the issue and the needs of these children, we can begin to see how collective action can change their futures for the better.
I'd like to encourage our creative skills this month in warming, soothing and helping these needy children realise there is care and love flowing to them from across the world. You can knit and crochet squares, blankets, hats, handwarmers and small toys which are all welcome and much needed.
The chosen colour of the month is GREEN.
However, I'd suggest given the vast array of animals, languages, cultures, landscapes, flags, tribes and the general use of colour through vibrant garments and materials that any colour is welcome. Picture squares, stripes, appliques and PJ's will brighten up a child's life.
Should you like to, and are able, we'd love you to post your makes in this discussion for others to enjoy and be inspired by. Thank you xx

A very emotive introduction, Karen. Now back to my blanket!
Merci pour cette introduction magnifique Karen : l'avis de Bev reflète tout ce que je pense et ressens en lisant votre présentation du mois. Je sens que "le vert" couleur de l'espérance et du renouveau va beaucoup nous inspirer toutes.
Amazing intro thank you Karen.
A thought provoking, caring and inspirational intro, Karen. xo
