Back at the end of 2019, I decided to challenge myself to knit 500 squares for KAS before my 50th birthday on 7 December 2020. Today I reached 250, so I’m halfway there! Does anyone else set challenges like this for themselves?

i hope my message isn't a repeat, as I was typing away and it disappeared midway through.
anyway I asked how you went with this challenge to yourself. Did you get the 500 squares finished by your December birthday.
I set myself a goal for 2020 and that was to not buy any yarn until I used up what I had stashed away. I also realised that knitting dolls and hand warmers would not make a dent in my stash, so I needed to make blankets for the year.
Wow that’s amazing I’ve set myself a mini challenge for KAS crocheting up all of my scrap yarn for squares for KAS. I’ve got my bucket beside me and a deadline of next Wednesday (the 7th oct) looking forward to seeing how many I’ll get done in a week.

I'm still working through my stash of bits and bobs, but keep finding new bits. I think this will be never ending.

I give myself the challenge to use up a bit or a bob, just so that I have one less yarn to handle. Usually knit corner to corner to use up the bob, or crochet just centers of granny squares until it is used up.
I make a lot of centres with the very short pieces of yarn. Also, I've been looking out very thin yarn and doubling with contrasting colours to use up yarn that I'd hidden away because it was very thin.

Keep it up, the stash does get smaller.

Tremendous idea Jasmine - good luck! I hope your *scrap* challenge produces some beautiful crocheting - we'd love to see pictures if this is at all possible.
These look gorgeous Barbara. With 500 like these, there will be some fantastic blankets.
I've never set any real targets, except that last month I decided that I would round up all my bits and bobs of yarn, left over from skeins that I'd begun but not finished. I found myself with a hefty collection of baskets and boxes. So far I've made around 100 squares all from little amounts of yarn. The result is very colourful, but I don't feel that my stash has decreased very much.

Here's a photo of the squares so far . . . perhaps by the time I get to 500, we will be able to ship from the US to SA again.
I guess this is called reading material.
