I have tried to attach pattern for small bears (if you look at my pictures, my neighbour Marian has knitted a lot! I will copy and paste below, but if you would like the pattern to print off let me have your email address and I'll do it that way!
4mm needles -
Double Knitting Wool -
Garter stitch used throughout (knit every row)
Cast on 8 stitches and work 16 rows.
Break off wool and cast on 8 stitches and work 16 rows to form other leg. Knit across both legs (16 sts) and complete 8 rows.
Cast on 8 stitches at beginning of next 2 rows. Work 8 rows.
Cast off 8 stitches at beginning of next 2 rows. Now work 38 rows on these 16 sts.
Cast on 8 stitches at beginning of next 2 rows. Work 8 rows.
Cast off 8 stitches at beginning of next 2 rows. Work 8 rows.
Using only first 8 stitches, work 16 rows and then cast off.
Return to remaining 8 stitches and work 16 rows and then cast off.
Sewing up & Filling:
Fold knitted piece in half lengthways. The fold becomes the top of the head. Join seam around teddy, leave a small gap between the legs. Turn right side out. Backstitch a diagonal line across corner of head to form ears. Stuff (with flame resistant stuffing) & stitch closed area left for stuffing. Embroider nose & eyes using different colour wool. Take a double thickness of wool and thread round the neck, going in every few stitches, (make sure no loops left hanging loose). Draw wool tight to form neck & secure ends. Knit a scarf for teddy & tie it round neck (secure in place if for a baby or sm
Hi Joan. Welcome to the group. I have been inspired by the people on this site and also decided to knit some teddies. I have used the following pattern, it is quite straight forward and produces a cute little bear. Will be posting photo's soon.
First off, welcome to the group. I am writing from Kansas in the USA. I just joined in June and it actually has taken a lot of time to decode the pages and figure out what is really needed. The website is like a tanlged yarn when you start with add-on information and you feel like you double back a lot. It probably would help if someone who was knowledgeable of the history of the organziation would reorganize it. One helpful page I found was here:
Okay, the next thing I wanted to ask is what you are trying to download in patterns. Is it from this site or one such as Lion Brand, or a blog? Let me know and I would gladly try to help. I am still very much in a quandry over what to make and am starting realize through the forum that I am too literal...just make it warm and sizes baby-age12 or so. The other advice I keep getting is to read the ezines. If you access the site above, look at the Table of Contents on the left side for ezines. I need to do that. I understand that the stories and pics will clear up a lot of things.
Best of luck as you go through getting started. Let me say, after 2 1/2 months I have made some things, but have not sent any yet. I bought mailers today, but do not know if they are right. I have some new socks and undies that I bought and they should be washed so they are not classified when sent as new and get a charge put on them.
