WHAT'S ON YOU HOOKS AND NEEDLES THIS AUGUST
We have definitely celebrated PINK in this month's discussion.
Karen Gordon has reached into the archives sharing Members Patterns, see below "Requested Links For New Ideas".
There has been quite a bit of pink, but these patterns will work for any color and may give you a challenge.
2026 HELPFUL REMINDERS
Our squares need to measure 20 cm/8 inches
We need tails on every square to be able to sew the squares together. These tail measure 50 cm/20 inches. ( a quick measure use 3 sides of your square. Butterfly the tail in the corner.
Please use Worsted/Aran weight yarn/wool, or #4. We like our yarn/wool weight to match up evenly in our blankets.
Sew in all color changes tails.
Put a zero/one value ($0/$1)on all parcels being shipped to South Africa. Anything more cause high postal charges. Do Not insure your parcels. Mark parcels as gifts, donations, or humanitarian relief.
The Barn was busy in August as our team was trying to get blankets out to the children that need some warmth during these winter months in South Africa. The shelves might be close to empty, as our team is sending out the blankets as quickly as possible in distributions to creches. Visit this discussion for more photos of our volunteers.

SEPTEMBER THEME - WHAT'S ON YOUR HOOKS AND NEEDLES?
Let us know "What's Is On Your Hooks and Needles" during the month of September.
Maybe you have some UFOs or WIPs...UnFinished Objects or Works In Progress. September is a great month to finish your project, and send it to KAS.
Do you have lots of little balls of yarns that would make a wonderful granny square, or a stripy square? Use up your stash so you have room for more come December.
COLOR OF THE MONTH - BLACK
We understand that black can be a difficult color to create with, depending on the light in the room you are working in. These squares are helpful to have on hand for any blankets that incorporate a SA flag and they make all other colors pop in a blanket.
Be inspired to make a BLACK Plain Jane by reading Anne Powell's marvelous poem penned in October 2012.
THE "PLAIN JANE SQUARE"
I’m just a ‘plain Jane’ square
Nothing fancy, nothing grand!
Just a ‘plain Jane’ square,
Made by a loving hand.
You think I’m not important?
Well, think again, my friend!
‘Cause many other ‘plain Janes’
When they’re joined end to end
Will keep an orphan warm at night,
Wrap ‘round them on cold days,
And tell them that they’re loved
In, oh, so many ways!

Thank you for a super edition of Snippets, Amy.
I have read where the request is for Aran weight yarn to be used.
I have sent two parcels this year with DK (8 ply) yarn. I always try to make up parcels that are either all DK or all Aran. I have oodles of crates of 8 ply yarn that I will need to use up, though also using up my Aran weight as well.
Thanks for yet another a great Snippets Amy. Such a treat to read PLAIN JANE SQUARE again admire some of the beautiful pink squares and blankets made in August.
I want to echo and repeat Estelle's comments. We really appreciate reading Snippets each month, to keep up with all the various threads throughout the site.
And, it is always wonderful to remember Anne Powell and her delightful poems.
