DISTRIBUTIONS

Our team in South Africa have been sending multiple reports and photos on the recent distributions.  Smiling children wrapped in warm blankets, wearing beanies, inspecting their new cuddly toys and enjoying special posters.

WHAT'S ON YOUR HOOKS & NEEDLES THIS OCTOBER

We have seen a jumbo skein, 1000g, of yarn, colorful blankets and truly terrific turquoise squares this month in our discussion.  Check out Sandra's bunny/rabbit blanket, Karen's creation from a donation by friends, Bev's counting applique collection and many more squares, blankets, beanies.

Colors, patterns and so much more are making their way into The Blanket Room. 

 

 UPDATE FROM RONDA

Our shelves are looking a bit empty at the moment...

... we have distributed over 2000 blankets this year so far and have calculated some 300 blankets still to come back to us from the gogo groups. So we will still do a few more distributions.

 

Generally the gogo groups prefer to have a relaxing Christmas season, so we are not anticipating having to have enough blanket packs to hand out at the time of collection from them. Just as well, as we only have 5 bags of squares at present.

 

 

BARN VOLUNTEERS

Whether they meet on the east side of Johannesburg...

or the west side.

Our KAS Volunteers are busy working, sorting, assembling and packing blankets, squares and goodies for distribution.  You can read more in this discussion.

 

SEPTEMBER SQUARES LIST

MONTHLY TOTALS:

During September we received 69 parcels, containing 2.474 squares, equal to 70 blankets.

Many other items were received, such as hats, hand-warmers, cuddly toys and other goodies.

October 20, 2020 – Clever tips for creative knitters

This week, Karen Gordon from the northeast of England chats to Leanne about the very important role that knitting has played in her life. Having had mobility problems from childhood, she learned to make garments for herself then switched to knitting for charity. She describes how Knit-a-square gives focus to her knitting and what it means to be able to help and encourage other members on the forum. Karen also shares some great tips on where to find new yarn and other extras at affordable prices. For anyone who has not yet attempted the monthly themes for squares, this episode is sure to provide some valuable motivation!
